Big Apple Donashi

Hello Donashi!
Goshhh... I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to think about baking, much less bake nor blog! I'm sorry I don't have any new creations of my own right now, but I do have a wonderful review of a delightful dessert :D

Big Apple! Yes, I did blog about the J.Co Donuts before (and I still stand by my statement that J.Co Donuts are the BEST!) and now this is my review for Big Apple donuts. I'm not sure where Big Apple Donuts originated from - but I doubt it actually came from the Big Apple! To me they still lack the fluffiness and delicate flavors of J.Co, but I have to give them props for their creativity for cuteness!

They came out with their Donashi some time ago. Do What Shes?? you ask? They are Donuts and Sushi put together. Whatt?? you ask? Well, they are basically like donut holes, decorated to look like sushi :D

Mmmm... ebiko? Nope.. jelly
Yes, adorable aren't they? And they are so tiny - I'm embarrassed to say that I FINISHED the whole box of 9 ALL BY MYSELF!! Yes... I'm a glutton :'( I feel so guilty thinking about it... (but I did finish it in periods of time... it took me like 2 days and 3 meals OK??) A pack of 9 costs about RM17 i think? I bought large trays of Donashi the last time I had events (a workshop for women - for my day job) and the ladies loved them! They were really inexpensive too... and they come in great bite sized pieces. No chopping up donuts into tinier pieces for people to share...

A pack of 9

Some are filled with mango cream, some chocolate, and some other cream... couldn't really tell :S
And of course, I could not resist doing this....

Yummm.... Donuts... I think

GAH!! You're finishing it... get away get away!!

Coffee Crave

Coffee is no longer a hobby or a treat for me. It has become an addiction! And judging by the number of pictures of coffee and sometimes tea I have in my handphone, you can tell it has been an addiction for quite some time.

  • In the mosaic above, you'll see a cup of tea and a curry puff on a wooden table. That, I got from the cafeteria where I work. The tea costs 80 cents, and the puff 50 cents. It totally perks me up in the middle of a long boring day at work :P

  • The cropped image on the left of the top mosaic, you'll see tea with a thick black layer on the bottom. That is one of our favorite drinks in coffee shops. They call it a Three Layered Tea, or Three Colored Tea. It is because they pour it in a way where it has three different colors and layers. Bottom layer would be the thick dark coconut syrup, followed by a layer of milk and a layer of tea or coffee on top. Yummy!

I love nothing more than to order a delicious cup of hot caffeinated drink and enjoy it with a teeny snack. I have compiled some of my favorite places around Malaysia and it's neighboring countries where I've had some of my best cups of java.

  • One of the rather interesting coffee I've had were the Vietnam coffee, which drips from the tin sieve above slowly into your cup. It is reallllly strong, and tastes kinda funky.

  • Those two long tubes were actually holding sweet thick drinks. I saw them in a night market at Ao Nang Krabi. The coffee, TO DIE FOR!

  • Ali Cafe serves delicious Teh Tarik - which means 'pulled tea'. Tea is poured from one glass to another to create a frothy, bubbly top. It's actually a form of art here in Malaysia.
MMm... coffee... Can't go a day without one :O

p/s: Like my mosaic? Made it at PhotoVisi ! It looks so professionally done.. :D

And this sure is a great post for Thirsty Thursday & Coffee Talk!

Pretty Food Makes Me Happy!

Just Pictures today....

Food is one of the main subjects of photography these days....

Why?

Because there's something about beautiful pictures of food that just makes you smile!

These were taken in one of my Favorite vacation spots in Malaysia - Cameron Highlands

Photos were taken by a Julie, good friend of mine who is absolutely genius at taking pictures of food... :)

Pretty much what I ate the whole trip in Cameron Highlands, but I'm submitting it to What I ate Wednesday!

Coffeeeeee.....!

Had it at Vietnam Kitchen, One Utama
Have you ever tried one of these before?

That's Vietnamese Coffee. I love that every time you go to a Vietnamese place and order their coffee, it comes in this cute little metal strainer sitting on your cup. You'd have to wait for it to slowly trickle down the sieve. By the time it has all dripped from the metal strainer into your cup, your coffee is at perfect temperature. Now I'm a coffee addict - and even for a coffee addict, Vietnamese Coffee is waayy to strong for me!

I really can't seem to find out what the difference between our northern neighbour's local brew and ours, but taste it and you certainly can tell! It's got a malt-y sort of taste... almost like they added barley in the coffee.

Vietnamese Coffee is best enjoyed with LOTS of milk and sugar... and plenty of ICE! Yummm..!!

D'lish @ Bangsar Village

Cake & Muffin Lineup.. Can you identify the perpetrator?
I do love hanging out in Bangsar. It sorta reminds me of Sydney. It's clean, pretty (especially during Christmas time), quiet (compared to KL City) and has plenty of food outlets (also plenty ang mohs). I just love the ambiance there..

One of the best cafes in Bangsar Village Shopping Center is D'lish (in my opinion). My favorite thing about D'lish at Bangsar Village is the lineup of pastries and cakes they have displayed in their chiller. I love the rustic, woody display!

Ooo... Quiche! My favoriteeeee...
Cookie jars..

It's almost impossible to make a selection when it comes to food and desserts there, but I simply cannot say NO to salmon...

The smoked salmon sandwich was nice. But the best part was the chips. Instead of the usual French fry, they served the sandwich with chips made from sweet potatoes - orange and purple ones. It was divine!

My friend ordered the tomato soup, which was also d'lishious!

Pastries in Canberra

Went through old pictures, and came across these...
I'm so sorry. I'm showing off.... but pastries are just way too pretty, it seems so selfish not to share...

These are delicious! And oh so gorgeous....I came across these at a sidewalk cafe somewhere in Canberra.

Yes, Canberra - Australia

You can't have any, unless of course you are in Canberra.

And if you're planning to go to Canberra, I can't help you either....

...because I can't remember where it's located.

I also can't remember the name of the shop.

But isn't this beautiful?!

You hate me don't you? :D

Oh, but this I remember. Delicious Hot Chocolate at Koko Black. Also found in Canberra... ;D

Delicious I tell ya!

Best things in life.... (J.Co Donuts, Sunway Pyramid)

For me, it's almost impossible to eat cakes (or pastries, or donuts, or cookies) without coffee. Actually, it's almost impossible for me to go about my day without having any coffee.

The coffee in J.Co isn't really something to shout about, but I absolutely LOVE that place. From the delicious fluffy donuts (try the original glazed - it's like eating sweet puffs of clouds!) to the adorable theme and smart ideas in the store. I've only ever been to the one in Sunway Pyramid, but every chance I get, I'll sit there and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a glazed donut.... Aaahhhh!

Oh Yum!

Sweet, spicy, sour mango salad - Got Doremon to replace Domo-kun as my model.. :I
Domo! isn't supposed to be a food blog, but more of a cake / baking blog. But after my recent visit to Hat Yai, Thailand.... I can't resist a post! After all, sharing is good, no? ;D

Oh the delicious, beautiful food! Thailand has the most tantalizing food in South East Asia. The food is usually very spicy, as cili padi is one of the main ingredients in almost all food. Other stuff mainly used in Thai food are mangoes, nuts, lime, fish sauce...chillies, chillies, chillies.

The part I loved best about Hat Yai was the floating market. Granted, I don't think its as long, or as busy as the one in Bangkok, but it was a first for me and I loved it! It's so picturesque, the ladies in straw hats, the river, the boats, the colorful and yummy looking food. Everything is prepared in front of you, like this mango salad (one of my favorite food!).
Ladies at the Floating Market

Keropi with cute little jelly filled with green bean paste & shaped like veggies.
I wonder how they do it....?

The dish I enjoyed best there was of course, the Tom Yum Soup. Everybody knows the best tom yum you will ever try in this world will come from Thailand. And in Hat Yai, go to a restaurant called Kam Eng. Order the seafood, dark soup Tom Yum... OMG! Nothing else compares!! Spicy, sour, salty, tangy... it's like a party going on in your mouth :D

Seafood Tom Yum, Beansprouts fried with salted fish, Fu-chuk stuffed with crab meat... YUMMY!!

And since Domo! is a cake blog, I cannot deprive you of the cute and creative cakes I saw there!

Cupcakes - still on the seafood theme...

More on Cameron Highlands~

If you've ever been to Cameron Highlands, I'm sure you know its a girl's place. Strawberries, Strawberries, STRAWBERRIES all over the place! If the strawberry had a trademark patent, it would be a rich fruit right now.

Of course, the first thing I go for in Cameron Highlands would be the food. You simply must, MUST go to this place called the Big Red Strawberry Farm. It has the best strawberry desserts I have tasted in Cameron so far. No cheap-o ingredients here. You can find real good whipped cream, gorgeous fresh strawberries - of course, and really really good home made muffins. It's the only place I could find interesting items like Coffee Strawberry, Hot Chocolate with Strawberry, and home made strawberry jam. (I am reusing the word strawberry so much - I'm just going to replace it with *S*) The Big Red *S* Farm is located at Brinchang, a 5 min walk from where the night market sets up.

Homemade muffin with cream, Hot *S* Chocolate
& Ice-cream with *s*.... *S*heaven!

Fried Ice Cream

The Big Red *S* farm has a flower nursery, a *s* farm where you can pick your own berries, a hydroponic farm and a cafe. The place is wonderful - beautiful view and heavenly desserts!

I think the toilets are adorable! ;P
Oh...Hi Fren!

Of course the other stuff you'd want to see are the flowers! :D

Very rustic, don't you think?
