Why Domo? Why is that square brown teethy thing called Domo?
Well, if you aren't a Domo-kun fan, or you haven't seen any of the 30second NHK clips, let me introduce you to the beginning of Domo.
Episode 2 tells you how Domo got his name:
Domo is the mascot for a Japanese TV station, NHK. Here, Domo-kun's egg pretty much rolled into a rabbit hole, occupied by Usaji (grandpa/rabbit) and 2 bats (Mum - Maya, and son - Mario). Ain't they cute?
